ASABA: The Delta State Police Command has intensified its campaign to improve public safety and enforce compliance with traffic regulations, leading to the impoundment of 21 vehicles during a targeted security operation in Abraka and Ozoro communities.
The operation, carried out on Tuesday, July 21, formed part of the command’s broader intelligence-driven strategy aimed at identifying vehicles operating in violation of traffic and registration laws while preventing their possible use in criminal activities.
Police authorities said the enforcement exercise was coordinated by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations, with officers conducting inspections on major roads within the affected communities.
According to the command, several motorists were found operating vehicles without proper registration, while others were alleged to have covered their number plates or driven with expired vehicle documentation.
The 21 affected vehicles were subsequently taken into police custody for further administrative and legal procedures in accordance with existing traffic regulations.
Speaking on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, said vehicles without proper identification or valid documentation create avoidable security challenges and could provide opportunities for criminal activities to go undetected.
He stressed that strict enforcement of vehicle registration laws remains an important component of the command’s crime prevention strategy across Delta State.
The police commissioner urged motorists to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered, display valid number plates, and carry up-to-date documentation at all times to avoid sanctions.
He also advised residents to cooperate with law enforcement officers during routine patrols and security checks, noting that compliance with traffic regulations contributes to public safety and assists security agencies in tracking stolen or suspicious vehicles.
Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe explained that the operation reflects the command’s commitment to combining intelligence gathering with proactive enforcement to improve security throughout the state.
According to the command, similar operations will continue across other parts of Delta State as security agencies increase efforts to discourage traffic-related offences and strengthen law enforcement.
Residents have also been encouraged to report suspicious vehicles, criminal activities, or traffic-related violations through appropriate police channels to support ongoing security initiatives.
