Delta Police Arrest Five Suspects in Ughelli, Agbor, Recover Guns and Ammunition

The Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspects in separate intelligence-led operations in Ughelli North and Ika South Local Government Areas, recovering two firearms, ammunition and other items suspected to be connected to criminal activities.

The arrests were carried out by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) and the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU) as part of ongoing efforts to tackle armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent crimes across Delta State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement issued by the command in Asaba on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

According to Edafe, operatives of CP-SAT raided Ujode Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area on October 16 following credible intelligence about the activities of a suspected armed robbery syndicate allegedly terrorising the community.

During the operation, the police arrested a 29-year-old suspect identified as Thankgod Ejakpomewhe.

The suspect was allegedly found with a locally made long gun and one live cartridge, while other suspected members of the group reportedly fled when the operatives arrived.

The police spokesperson said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

The command maintained that the operation formed part of its broader efforts to disrupt criminal networks and improve security across the state.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Ubuluku arrested four suspects during a raid on a suspected criminal hideout in Alisimen Community, Ika South Local Government Area.

Edafe said the operation took place on October 15 following intelligence received by the police concerning suspected criminal activities in the area.

The four suspects were identified as Okwunzuwa Rubben, 28; John Onyeka, 42; Uzoma Ifeyinwa, 20; and Osas Atoe, 22.

During the operation, officers reportedly recovered a double-barrelled pump-action gun, one laptop, six mobile phones, a camouflage cap and a camouflage jacket.

A subsequent search of the suspects’ residence also led to the recovery of five live cartridges, according to the police.

The command did not provide further details about the alleged roles of the individual suspects or explain whether the recovered items had been linked to specific criminal incidents.

The Delta State Police Command said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the arrests and determine the possible connection between the suspects and the recovered items.

The police also said efforts were continuing to apprehend the suspects who allegedly escaped during the operation in Ughelli North.

The arrests come amid continuing security efforts in Delta State to address crimes including armed robbery, kidnapping and other acts of violence.

The suspects’ alleged involvement in criminal activities has not been established in court. Further details are expected as police investigations progress.
