Delta Governor Reaffirms Support for Military and Security Agencies at 2025 Emblem Launch

ASABA: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for the Nigerian military and other security agencies operating within the state. This commitment was made during the launch of the 2025 Emblem Appeal Fund on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Unity Hall, Government House in Asaba.

Represented by the Commissioner for Finance, Sir Fidelis Tilije, the governor paid tribute to both fallen and active members of the armed forces for their dedication to safeguarding Nigeria’s peace and territorial integrity.

Governor Oborevwori expressed his appreciation, stating, “I welcome you all to the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem Appeal Fund Launch, where we honor both our serving and fallen military heroes, as well as the legionnaires who sacrificed to defend our country.”

He continued, “This event allows us to reflect on and honor the brave officers and men who paid the ultimate price for the peace and unity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The governor specifically acknowledged the contributions of those who lost their lives in the two World Wars, the Nigerian Civil War, and various peacekeeping missions across the globe. He also expressed gratitude to the men and women of the armed forces who continue to risk their lives in the fight against insurgency, terrorism, and banditry.

“Their courage reminds us daily of what it means to be patriots,” he said, urging all citizens to show respect and appreciation for the military. He emphasized, “As a people, we must always honor our men and women in uniform for their tireless work in keeping us united. They deserve nothing less.”

Oborevwori reiterated that, in line with his administration’s M.O.R.E agenda—which prioritizes peace and security—his government will continue to support the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in their operations throughout the state.

When approached by armed forces personnel or their representatives, please show your generosity.”

He further directed all Local Government Council Chairmen to organize Emblem Launches in their respective areas and urged the Nigerian Legion’s Delta State chapter to ensure the funds raised are used effectively for their intended purposes.

Earlier, Mr. Ojei Boniface, Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Delta State Chapter, expressed gratitude to the governor for his continuous support through the M.O.R.E agenda. He appealed for additional support in areas such as empowerment and the allocation of farmland to the Legion for commercial agriculture, which would contribute to food security and provide revenue for the organization.

The Emblem Launch was attended by several dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Chairman of the Traditional Rulers Council, and the 63 Brigade Commander of the Nigerian Army, among others.
