Delta APC Crisis: Orugbo Seeks Apology, ₦100m Compensation Over Congress Exclusion

WARRI: The Chairman of the Governing Council of Delta State Polytechnic, Oghara, Andrew Oghene-Aga Orugbo, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to David Rheriobore, chairman of the All-Progressives Congress in Udu Local Government Area, demanding a public apology and payment of ₦100 million over alleged defamation.

Orugbo, through his lawyers, claimed he was deliberately excluded from a stakeholders’ meeting of the APC held on February 11, 2026, at the Udu council secretariat. The meeting reportedly focused on selecting members of the party’s local executive committee.

His legal representatives argued that the omission of his name from an invitation list of about 80 party stakeholders portrayed him as politically irrelevant despite his longstanding involvement and leadership role in the party

According to the letter dated February 13, the alleged exclusion caused embarrassment, reputational harm and emotional distress. Orugbo maintains he remains a registered APC member and recognized party leader in Ward Three of the council area.

He is demanding:

  • A written public apology published in at least two widely circulated newspapers in Delta State and on the same social media platforms where the invitation notice appeared.

  • Payment of ₦100 million as damages for the alleged injury to his reputation.

The letter warned that legal action could follow if the demands are not met within seven days.

Responding to the claims, Rheriobore said party leaders are often invited to meetings on a rotational basis and suggested the issue could be resolved internally. He indicated reluctance to pursue a legal confrontation, expressing confidence that party elders would settle the dispute amicably.
