OSOGBO: Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump to pay close attention to the forthcoming Osun State governorship election, expressing concern over the possibility of violence and disruption of the electoral process.
Davido made the appeal in a post on X on Tuesday, urging the United States and the international community to monitor developments surrounding the August 15 election.
The singer called on relevant authorities to protect voters and ensure that the outcome of the election reflects the wishes of the people.
President Donald Trump, I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election.
There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process,” Davido wrote.
According to the singer, residents of Osun State should be allowed to exercise their constitutional right to vote without fear or intimidation.
Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear, he said.
Davido also urged the international community to closely monitor the election and encourage Nigerian authorities to guarantee the safety of voters.
I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected, he wrote.
Emphasizing the need for a peaceful electoral process, Davido said his primary concern was preventing violence and ensuring that the election was conducted transparently.
We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election, he said.
The latest appeal follows an earlier warning by the singer that he would seek Trump’s intervention if anything went wrong during the Osun election.
Davido made the remark during a live session with comedian Carter Efe, where he said he would involve the US president if the electoral process was compromised.
The singer is a nephew of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and has openly supported his uncle’s bid for re-election.
He has also repeatedly called on political actors and residents of the state to reject violence, provocation and intimidation ahead of the poll.
The August 15 Osun governorship election is expected to be closely contested, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking another term in office.
Among the major challengers are the All-Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, and the African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam.
With political activities intensifying ahead of the election, concerns over security and the credibility of the process have continued to dominate discussions.
Davido’s intervention adds his voice to growing calls for a peaceful election, although his appeal to Trump has also drawn attention because of his close relationship with Governor Adeleke.
The singer has made clear that his immediate concern is not only who wins the election but that voters are allowed to cast their ballots freely and that their choices are respected.
