Chief of Army Staff, Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja Dies At Ade, 56

ABUJA: The death of Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has been confirmed in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Lagbaja passed away on Tuesday night in Lagos after a period of illness, at the age of 56.

In the statement, titled ‘Announcement of the Passing of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja,’ President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed deep sorrow at the loss of the distinguished military leader. Lagbaja was appointed as Chief of Army Staff on June 19, 2023, and during his short time in office, he was known for his exceptional leadership and steadfast commitment to the Nigerian Armed Forces.

The statement highlighted General Lagbaja’s extensive military career, which included serving as a platoon commander in the 93 Battalion and the 72 Special Forces Battalion, where he earned respect for his dedication and expertise.

President Tinubu offered heartfelt condolences to the family of the late General Lagbaja and to the entire Nigerian military, acknowledging the significant void left by his passing. He praised Lagbaja’s contributions to the nation’s security and wished him eternal peace.

The loss of Lt. General Lagbaja marks a difficult moment for Nigeria’s military leadership, and his absence will be felt across the country.
