WWE legend Brock Lesnar has officially announced his retirement from professional wrestling, bringing the curtain down on one of the most dominant and decorated careers in sports entertainment.
The 49-year-old made the announcement during an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, confirming that his match at SummerSlam 2026 was the final chapter of his in-ring career. I am here today to let the world, and everybody know that I am retired, Lesnar said. I want to say a big thank you to everybody. Saturday at SummerSlam 2026 was a very emotional day for me.
Lesnar revealed that he had initially considered retiring after his WrestleMania 42 clash with rising WWE star Oba Femi but decided he still had enough left for two more matches.
However, he admitted that his SummerSlam appearance convinced him it was finally time to step away When Oba Femi slammed me at WrestleMania, I thought, ‘I can’t do this again. I think I’m done.’ But I felt like I still had some fuel in the tank. Saturday at SummerSlam, that’s it for Brock Lesnar. That’s it for me in the squared circle.
The former WWE Champion also thanked fans who supported him throughout his remarkable career. I was just a farm kid from South Dakota with a big dream, a big heart and a big chip on my shoulder. I’m grateful.
Widely regarded as one of the most dominant performers in WWE history, Lesnar built an extraordinary résumé spanning more than two decades.
His achievements include:

- Three-time WWE Universal Champion
- Royal Rumble winner
- King of the Ring winner
- Money in the Bank winner
- Youngest WWE Champion in history after defeating The Rock at SummerSlam 2002 at just 25 years old
Lesnar also became one of WWE’s biggest crossover attractions, earning global fame through his success in both professional wrestling and mixed martial arts.
With his retirement now official, Lesnar is widely expected to become a first-ballot inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame whenever he becomes eligible.
His career featured memorable rivalries with legendary stars including The Rock, The Undertaker, John Cena, Roman Reigns, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Seth Rollins and Randy Orton.
Known as “The Beast Incarnate, Lesnar became synonymous with power, athleticism and unmatched in-ring dominance.
Reflecting on his journey, Lesnar encouraged young athletes to prioritize discipline and hard work over social media fame. I’m grateful to be 49 years old and to be able to do what I did in this lifetime. I thank God and everybody that supported me.
He concluded with advice for aspiring sports stars:I was just a farm kid with lint in my pocket. I had big dreams, and I just worked. A lot of people nowadays with social media helping athletes leave out the hard work. If kids stay focused on work and putting the time in, good things will happen.
