CSP Ahmed Wakil, the spokesperson for the Command, shared this information in a statement on Monday.
According to the statement, preliminary investigations indicate that the couple had been struggling with marital issues, particularly concerning the custody of Salamatu’s six-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
While initial discussions with her family had suggested that the child would be welcomed into their home, the husband later rejected this idea, which created tension between them.
The situation reportedly escalated when, in a moment of intense argument and feeling cornered by her husband’s refusal, Salamatu used a knife from their bedroom, leading to the unfortunate death of her husband.
Detectives from the Bununu Police Divisional Headquarters were promptly dispatched to the scene, and the victim was rushed to the Cottage Hospital in Bununu for treatment. However, the medical staff later confirmed the husband’s death due to the injuries he had sustained.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Mohammed, has instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department to carry out a thorough and confidential investigation into the matter. Following this, appropriate legal actions will be taken, the statement concluded.
