Bauchi Shuts All Schools Over Security Concerns

BAUCHI: The Bauchi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all schools across the state, citing rising security concerns. The directive affects primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, including federal and private schools.

The announcement was made on Sunday by Jalaludeen Usman, Information and Public Relations Officer of the state Ministry of Education.

He said the decision followed extensive consultations and was aimed at protecting students, teachers, and school communities.

“This decision, though difficult, was made in response to overwhelming security concerns, Usman said. The safety of our children is our highest priority. Every student in Bauchi State deserves to learn in an environment that is safe, stable, and free from fear.

He urged parents, guardians, school owners, and other stakeholders to remain calm and cooperative while the government works closely with security agencies to address the situation. Residents were also advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

The closure comes in the wake of recent abductions of secondary school students in Kebbi and Niger states, which have raised fears among parents and authorities across northern Nigeria.

The Federal Government had earlier ordered the temporary closure of 41 unity schools in response to similar security threats.

Usman assured that updates would be provided as the situation unfolds and emphasized that normal academic activities would resume once it is deemed safe.
