APC Congress Trip Turns Tragic as Three Benue Members Die in Road Crash

Three members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ogbadigbo Local Government Area of Benue State have lost their lives in a tragic road accident while travelling to attend the party’s zonal congress in Lafia, Nasarawa State.

The fatal crash reportedly occurred on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, along the busy Makurdi–Lafia expressway, a major road linking Benue State to neighbouring Nasarawa State.

The victims were said to be part of a delegation of party members travelling to participate in the APC’s North Central zonal congress when the accident happened.

Confirming the incident, the Benue State Organizing Secretary of the APC, James Ornguga, disclosed that three party members died in the crash while several others sustained injuries.

“Yes, we lost three of our members from Ogbadigbo, while others were injured and are receiving treatment at the hospital, Ornguga said.

According to him, the injured victims were rushed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) in Makurdi, where they are currently receiving medical attention.

He did not immediately provide the identities of the deceased members but described the development as a painful loss for the party and the families affected.

Party members and political associates have since expressed shock and sadness over the tragic incident, which occurred while the victims were travelling for a political event.

The APC’s zonal congress in Lafia was expected to bring together party leaders and delegates from states across the North Central region to deliberate on party matters and strengthen internal structures ahead of future political activities.

Political observers say the incident has cast a shadow over the party’s gathering, as members mourn the loss of their colleagues.

Road accidents remain a persistent challenge along several Nigerian highways, including the Makurdi–Lafia route, which has recorded multiple crashes in recent years due to high traffic and poor road conditions.

Authorities have yet to release further details about the cause of the crash, while sympathies continue to pour in for the families of the deceased and those injured in the incident.
