OSOGBO: Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has taken a commanding lead in the ongoing collation of results from Saturday’s governorship election, winning 19 of the state’s 30 Local Government Areas (LGAs) declared so far.
Adeleke, who contested under the Accord Party, has secured victories in several key LGAs, while his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has won 11 LGAs.
The results are being collated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which is expected to make the final declaration after the completion of the exercise.
The emerging results indicate a closely contested election, with both candidates recording victories across different parts of the state.
Among the LGAs won by Adeleke are Ede South, Ife North, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Ife Central, Orolu, Osogbo, Oriade, Odo Otin, Ife East, Ifelodun, Iwo, Ede North, Ila, Ayedire, Egbedore and Ayedaade.
Oyebamiji, meanwhile, secured victories in several LGAs, including Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakumosa West, Irewole, Atakumosa East, Isokan, Olaoluwa, Ife South and Olorunda.
In Osogbo LGA, Adeleke polled 36,480 votes against Oyebamiji’s 30,474, while in Ede North, Adeleke recorded 35,427 votes compared with the APC candidate’s 10,283.
Adeleke also secured a notable victory in Ede South, where he polled 26,188 votes against Oyebamiji’s 6,219.
However, Oyebamiji recorded strong performances in several LGAs. In Irewole, he polled 29,972 votes against Adeleke’s 10,934. He also won Ilesa East with 16,208 votes to Adeleke’s 12,280.
In Olorunda, Oyebamiji narrowly defeated Adeleke with 24,671 votes against 23,514.
The results also showed that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) participated in the election, although its vote figures were considerably lower than those recorded by the two leading candidates in most LGAs.
With results from all 30 LGAs now available at the local level, attention has shifted to the final collation and official declaration by INEC.
The commission’s declaration will determine whether Adeleke secures another term in office or whether Oyebamiji stages an upset to take over the Osun State Government House.
Until INEC makes the official declaration, the figures remain results announced during the collation process and should not be treated as the final certified outcome of the election.
