Adeleke May Withdraw from PDP Governorship Race Over Party Crisis — Osun PDP

OSOGBO: The Osun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed that Governor Ademola Adeleke may no longer be interested in seeking the party’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election unless the party resolves its lingering internal crisis within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timeline.

Speaking in Osogbo on Monday, State Chairman Sunday Bisi said the deepening national-level crisis rocking the PDP has made it impossible to conduct the party’s governorship primary earlier scheduled for December 2.

He explained that although Adeleke completed all required nomination procedures including purchasing and submitting his forms between October 13 and 25 and appearing before the screening committee on October 30 subsequent leadership tussles at the national level disrupted the process.

According to Bisi, the suspension and counter-suspension of key national officials responsible for conducting primaries created uncertainty, ultimately preventing the statutory ward and local government congresses of November 24 and 29 from holding. These congresses are essential for electing delegates who would vote in the primary.

He added that multiple court cases across the country have further complicated the party’s ability to proceed within schedule.

In light of these issues, the PDP governorship primary can no longer hold as planned, Bisi said. And based on current information, Governor Adeleke may no longer be interested in pursuing the PDP nomination unless a crisis resolution recognized by INEC is achieved within the commission’s deadline.

INEC’s timetable gives political parties until December 15 to submit their final candidate lists for the August 8, 2026, Osun governorship election.
