CALABAR: The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended its National Vice Chairman (South-South), Dr. Usani Uguru Usani, over what the party described as activities capable of undermining its unity and progress.
According to a statement released on Monday by the Cross River State chapter’s Publicity Secretary, James Otudor, the decision was reached after a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) held on October 15, 2025.
Otudor stated that several petitions against Usani accused him of anti-party activities, insubordination, and conduct considered detrimental to the party’s image and electoral strength.
“In line with the ADC constitution and disciplinary procedures, Dr. Usani’s suspension takes immediate effect pending the conclusion of a formal investigation by the appropriate party organs,” the statement read.
The Cross River chapter also criticized the appointment of Ms. Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, citing a lack of consultation with the state leadership.
The committee accused Wayas of showing minimal engagement with the state chapter and questioned her loyalty to the ADC’s South-South structure.
The SWC urged the party’s national leadership to reconsider her appointment and replace her with a competent, credible, and media-savvy” representative from Cross River State who embodies the party’s ideals.
The statement further expressed disappointment with members of the Coalition Movement who had declared support for the ADC but failed to complete their official registration.
“All coalition leaders and intending members are directed to complete their registration at their respective wards within seven days, ending October 25, 2025, or risk exclusion from the party’s leadership and decision-making processes,” the party warned.
Reaffirming its loyalty to the ADC’s national leadership, the Cross River chapter pledged continued dedication to promoting credible leadership and people-oriented politics across the South-South.
“We urge all members to remain calm, law-abiding, and committed as the party’s internal mechanisms for discipline, justice, and accountability take their full course, Otudor added.
