BOMADI: Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested a 62-year-old woman found in possession of a sack filled with 178 live cartridges reportedly meant for delivery.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Friday, October 31, 2025.
According to Edafe, the suspect, identified as Charter Timide, was apprehended by operatives attached to the Bomadi Division during a joint stop-and-search operation with the Bomadi Vigilante Group
On October 30, 2025, at about 12:30 p.m. operatives on patrol along the Bomadi–Tuomo Road intercepted a motorcycle conveying a woman who appeared uneasy, the police statement read.
Upon a thorough search, officers discovered a concealed sack containing one hundred and seventy-eight (178) live cartridges neatly packed for delivery.
During interrogation, the 62-year-old suspect reportedly confessed that she purchased the cartridges from Onitsha Main Market, a popular commercial hub in Anambra State known for its diverse trading activities.
Her confession has prompted further investigations to uncover the intended destination and purpose of the ammunition, as well as identify possible connections to armed groups or black-market suppliers.
The suspect and the recovered exhibits have been transferred to the State Headquarters for discreet investigation, Edafe added.
The Delta State Police Command said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest other individuals linked to the illegal transaction.
