Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of neglecting and humiliating people in Northern Nigeria, warning that financial inducements will not necessarily secure their support in the 2027 general election.
Baba-Ahmed made the remarks in a Facebook post in which he criticised supporters of Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) who are campaigning for the president’s re-election.
He alleged that pro-APC campaigners intended to distribute money on an unprecedented scale to influence voters in the North, arguing that such an approach would underestimate the concerns and dignity of the people.
What will the leaders of the campaign to bring back Tinubu and the APC, especially those from Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto, Katsina, Borno, Yobe, Kwara, Kaduna, Plateau, Kogi and Nasarawa states, tell the people? he asked.
The PRP chairman said political leaders seeking support from Northern communities should be prepared to explain their records and address concerns about the treatment of the region under the current administration.
Baba-Ahmed alleged that supporters of Tinubu and the APC were relying on financial inducements to win votes ahead of the next presidential election.
We know they will share money on a scale never before seen in Nigerian politics. Their problem is that they look down on Northerners, he said.
He further accused the administration of presiding over what he described as humiliation and neglect of Northern Nigerians.
They think they can buy us off and make us forget the humiliation and neglect we have suffered under Tinubu’s administration,Baba-Ahmed added.
His comments place the question of vote buying and political accountability at the centre of the emerging debate over the 2027 elections.
However, his allegation about plans for large-scale cash distribution remains a claim made by the PRP chairman and has not been independently established in the information provided.
The PRP leader urged Northern voters to defend their dignity and make electoral decisions based on their assessment of political parties and candidates rather than financial inducements.
We will show them that we, too, are human beings with dignity, he said.
Baba-Ahmed also warned against any attempt to manipulate election results if voters reject the APC and Tinubu at the polls.
If we reject the APC and Tinubu, nobody should dare manipulate the election results, he added.
His remarks highlight the importance of credible elections, transparent vote counting and respect for the choices of voters as political parties prepare for the 2027 general election.
Despite his criticism, the PRP chairman welcomed supporters of the president to the political contest, signalling his readiness for a competitive election.
We are here, and you are there. Let the contest begin,” he declared.
The statement comes as political parties and their leaders intensify public engagement ahead of the 2027 elections, with economic conditions, regional concerns, governance and electoral credibility expected to feature prominently in political discussions.
For the APC and other political parties seeking support in Northern Nigeria, the emerging debate raises questions about how voters will assess the administration’s record and the promises presented by competing political camps.
Baba-Ahmed’s intervention also reinforces calls for political campaigns to focus on policies, accountability and the needs of citizens rather than alleged attempts to influence voters through money.
RapidoSpace News will continue to follow political developments and the growing debate over Northern Nigeria’s role in the 2027 general elections.
