Sowore, AAC Chairman Attend RCCG Thanksgiving Service for Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary
African Action Congress presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore and the party’s National Chairman, Pastor Samuel Ajeigbe, attended the National Thanksgiving Service held at the Redeemed Christian church of God(RCCG) Headquarters in Ebute Metta, Lagos, as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.
Sowore said he attended the thanksgiving service following an invitation from the church to participate in the special celebration marking the country’s independence.
The event brought together Christian leaders, political figures and other Nigerians to offer prayers and thanksgiving for the nation.
After the service, Sowore held a private meeting with the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, who prayed for him.
According to Sowore, Adeboye told him that he had been following his activities and described his political path as honourable. Sowore also said the respected cleric expressed confidence in his eventual success.
The AAC presidential candidate noted that his meeting with Adeboye was not their first encounter. He recalled meeting the RCCG leader at the same venue in 1996, shortly after completing his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme.
Sowore said that, at the time, he was involved in efforts aimed at mobilising young people against campus cultism and the activities of cult groups.
Thirty years later, Sowore said, the two met again at the RCCG headquarters, where he received prayers and had a private conversation with the cleric.
The AAC presidential candidate expressed appreciation to the RCCG leadership and members of the church for the warm reception accorded him and the party chairman during the thanksgiving service.
He, however, clarified that his presence at the church was not intended as a political campaign or an attempt to promote a political agenda.
Sowore is expected to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the African Action Congress (AAC), with the party continuing its campaign around its call for political and socioeconomic reforms in Nigeria.
The thanksgiving service formed part of nationwide activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.
