25-Year-Old Woman Found Bound and Unconscious in Abuja Hotel Room

ABUJA: A 25-year-old woman, Promise Eze, was rescued by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command after being tied up and left unconscious by a man she met on an online dating site.

The suspect, who initially went by Michael Prince but later identified as Emmanuel Okoro, is currently on the run, and the police have launched a manhunt for his arrest.

In a statement on Sunday, police spokesperson Josephine Adeh said the police received a distress call from a hotel in Wuse, Abuja, after noticing suspicious behavior in one of its rooms. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Eze tied to a small chair with her mouth taped shut and lying unconscious on the floor.

Eze was quickly rushed to Wuse District Hospital, where she was revived.

“The police received a distress call on January 31, 2025, around 11:30 AM from a hotel in Wuse, reporting unusual activity in one of their rooms. Upon arrival, police officers found Promise Eze, a 25-year-old woman from Ebonyi State, bound to a chair with her mouth taped. She was unconscious, and officers immediately freed her, taking her to the hospital for medical attention,” the statement read.

Adeh revealed that preliminary investigations showed that Eze had checked into the hotel on January 30, 2025, with Okoro, whom she had met online. Okoro had presented himself as an oil company employee based in Delta State.

The suspect had initially invited Eze to visit him in Delta, but she declined and instead agreed to meet him in Abuja.

According to Eze’s testimony, Okoro threatened her with a dagger before restraining her, tying her up, and taping her mouth shut inside the hotel’s bathroom. He then fled the scene, taking her two mobile phones. Before escaping, Eze overheard Okoro speaking to accomplices, saying he planned to return to the hotel to “finish the job.”

“The victim said Okoro brandished a dagger to intimidate and overpower her, tying her hands and feet and taping her mouth shut inside the bathroom. He stole her two phones and, before fleeing, spoke to others on the phone, mentioning he would return to complete his plans,” the statement continued.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the incident, urging young women to be cautious when meeting strangers online. He assured the public that the police were actively searching for the suspect and encouraged anyone with information to come forward.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers of online interactions, with the police emphasizing the importance of exercising caution and vigilance when meeting people through digital platforms.
