ASABA: Senator Ede Dafinone has called for a thorough and impartial investigation into the death of Ekuevugbe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, described the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death as troubling and urged authorities to establish exactly what happened.
In a statement, the senator appealed for calm among residents and stakeholders while the relevant authorities investigate the incident.
He said the investigation must be transparent and guided by evidence, stressing that anyone found responsible should be held accountable in accordance with the law. The circumstances surrounding his death are deeply troubling and demand a thorough, transparent and impartial investigation,” Dafinone said.
The senator further warned against any attempt to conceal facts or protect individuals who may be found culpable.
There must be no cover-up, no sacred cows and no attempt to shield anyone found culpable, he said, adding that the investigation should follow the evidence wherever it leads.
Dafinone acknowledged steps reportedly taken by the Delta State Government under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the Delta State Police Command following the incident.
He appealed to the people of Ughelli Kingdom, the Urhobo nation, civil servants and other concerned residents to remain calm and allow the authorities to establish the facts.
According to him, grief and the demand for answers should not interfere with the process of determining what happened.
Our grief and legitimate demand for answers must not be allowed to undermine the very process required to establish the truth, he said.
Dafinone also expressed condolences to the Adeda family of Ughelli Kingdom, describing the death of the senior civil servant as a painful loss.
He said Adeda’s death was particularly heartbreaking because he was a dedicated public servant who died while still in the prime of his career.
“On behalf of my family and the good people of Delta Central Senatorial District, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Adeda family of Ughelli Kingdom over this painful loss,” Dafinone said.
He prayed for the repose of Adeda’s soul and offered his sympathies to the deceased’s family, friends, colleagues and the wider Ughelli community
