ABUJA: The African Action Congress (AAC), led by activist and politician Omoyele Sowore, has asked President Bola Tinubu to approve the use of the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, for the inauguration of its Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party also requested food, drinks and other logistical support for participants, arguing that similar arrangements were reportedly made for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The requests were contained in a letter dated October 21, 2026, and signed by the AAC National Secretary, Oshiokhai Ikpeminioghena.
In the letter titled “Request for Approval to Hold the Inauguration of the AAC Presidential Campaign Council at the Presidential Villa and for Logistical Support,” the party proposed November 11, 2026, for the ceremony.
On behalf of the African Action Congress (AAC), I respectfully write to request approval to hold the inauguration ceremony of our Presidential Campaign Council on the 11th of November 2026 at the Presidential Villa, Aso Rock, Abuja, in preparation for the 2027 general elections, the letter stated.
The party further requested that the Presidency provide refreshments and other logistical assistance for those expected to attend the event.
In the spirit of multiparty democracy, political inclusiveness, and equal treatment of political parties, we also request the provision of food, drinks, and other logistical support for participants at the event, consistent with the arrangements reportedly extended to the All Progressives Congress (APC) for a similar political engagement, it added.
The AAC maintained that approving its request would demonstrate the Federal Government’s commitment to fairness and equal treatment of political parties, irrespective of their political affiliations.
We believe that granting this request would demonstrate the Presidency’s commitment to fairness, equal access, and the principle that public institutions must serve all Nigerians without partisan discrimination, the party stated.
The opposition party said it was awaiting a favourable response from the Presidency and requested clarification on the procedures and conditions governing the proposed use of the Presidential Villa.
The request comes as political parties begin preparations for the 2027 general elections, with questions surrounding political inclusiveness, access to public institutions and the use of government facilities for party activities likely to attract further attention.
RapidoSpace News will continue to follow developments surrounding the AAC’s request and the Presidency’s response.
