ABUJA: A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu’s All Progressives Congress (APC) will secure Kano State in the 2027 presidential election, despite the strong political influence associated with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Jibrin, who represents the Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, made the declaration while discussing the political situation in Kano and preparations for the 2027 election.
The lawmaker, who has previously been associated with the Kwankwasiyya political movement, said his familiarity with the movement gives him and other politicians in the APC an understanding of its structure, strategies and grassroots network.
Who is more Kwankwasiyya than us?” Jibrin asked during the discussion.
He added that he was sufficiently confident about the APC’s prospects in Kano that he was prepared to make a wager on the outcome.
We understand the entire dynamics. If you want me to put a bet, I will put a bet with you, we will deliver Kano for the President, Tinubu, and the President will win in the 2027 election,” he said.
Jibrin’s comments were made as political realignments continue to intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The lawmaker’s remarks are significant because of his previous political relationship with Kwankwaso and the wider Kwankwasiyya movement.
Jibrin has previously spoken about his familiarity with Kwankwasiyya’s political organisation and its influence in Kano.
In August, he similarly argued that his understanding of Kwankwaso’s political structure would help the APC counter the former governor’s influence during the 2027 contest.
The Kwankwasiyya movement remains an important political force in Kano, where Kwankwaso served two terms as governor and built a substantial political following.
Jibrin, however, argued that familiarity with the movement does not necessarily translate into electoral control, maintaining that APC politicians in the state understand the political terrain and are working to mobilise voters.
Jibrin also cautioned against relying solely on political perceptions when assessing the strength of different parties and candidates in Kano.
According to him, the actual election results would provide the clearest indication of voters’ preferences.
Yes, there is always perception, but I keep telling people that what will produce the real picture of what is on ground is the election results,” he said.
The lawmaker acknowledged that Nigerians were facing challenges but argued that political assessments should ultimately be tested against the outcome of the ballot.
He also claimed that Tinubu’s acceptance had increased in northern Nigeria, saying the President had never been as popular in the region as he is now.
That statement represents Jibrin’s assessment of the political environment rather than an independently established electoral fact.
Jibrin said APC leaders in Kano were already working together ahead of the election.
He listed several prominent politicians whom he said were involved in the party’s preparations, including the Kano State governor, Deputy President of the Senate Barau I. Jibrin, Senator Bashir Hanga, Senator Kabiru Gaya, former governor Ibrahim Shekarau and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Abubakar Bichi.
“We are meeting daily, we understand the dynamics,” he said.
His comments suggest that the APC is placing emphasis on coordination among its political leaders and grassroots structures as the 2027 election approaches.
Jibrin has also previously pointed to the number of Kano indigenes holding positions in the federal government under Tinubu as part of his argument for continued support for the President.
In August, he claimed that Tinubu had given Kano more than 40 key political appointments at the federal level.
The Presidency has also publicly maintained close political ties with Jibrin. On September 10, 2026, President Tinubu congratulated the lawmaker on his 50th birthday, describing him as a political ally and highlighting his previous public-service roles.
The political contest in Kano is unfolding against the backdrop of broader opposition realignments ahead of 2027.
Recent political developments have brought Kwankwaso into an emerging opposition arrangement involving Peter Obi, although the precise structure and final presidential ticket remain part of the evolving political process.
Channels Television recently reported that the opposition coalition was still dealing with questions over leadership, candidate selection and how the various political interests would be accommodated.
The political significance of Kano makes the state an important arena in the 2027 contest, particularly because of its large electorate and Kwankwaso’s longstanding political base there.
For Jibrin, however, the APC’s strategy is focused on building a political structure capable of competing directly with Kwankwasiyya.
His statement that APC politicians are prepared to “deliver Kano” for Tinubu represents his political assessment and campaign position ahead of the election, rather than a verified prediction of the eventual result.
With the 2027 election still ahead, the competing claims by APC figures and opposition politicians will ultimately be tested through voter turnout, campaign organisation, party structures and the votes cast at the election.
