Nigerian businessman and socialite Pascal Chibuike Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu does not fully trust him because he is an Igbo man and previously supported Peter Obi during the 2023 presidential election.
Cubana Chief Priest made the remarks while speaking during an online chat, where he reflected on his political journey and relationship with the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The celebrity nightlife promoter recently contested for the APC House of Representatives ticket for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency in Imo State but failed to secure the party’s nomination.
Following his defeat, he later claimed that he was never fully in the race despite publicly obtaining the nomination form.
Speaking on his relationship with the presidency, Cubana Chief Priest said his past political support for Peter Obi still affects how he is perceived within the ruling camp.
Let me tell you, as I am now, Tinubu doesn’t really trust me as an Igbo man. He looks at me with one eye. He is still like, ‘this one that worked for Peter Obi before,’” he said.
The socialite explained that although he worked for Obi during the 2023 election, he later decided to back President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 political contest because he believes Obi cannot defeat the incumbent president.
Cubana Chief Priest currently serves as the City Boys Movement coordinator in Imo State and has publicly declared support for Tinubu’s political agenda.
After losing the APC ticket, reactions trailed the outcome on social media, with many users mocking his political ambition and describing the development as a lesson in Nigerian politics.
However, Seyi Tinubu reportedly encouraged him after the defeat through a message shared on Instagram, urging him not to allow the setback discourage his future ambitions.
The comments by Cubana Chief Priest have continued to generate reactions online amid growing political discussions ahead of the 2027 general election.
