KANO: In his efforts to instill discipline and excellent public service within his ministry for better results, the Kano State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Abdulkarim Maude, SAN, on
the early hours of Wednesday conducted unscheduled visits to the Gyadi-Gyadi Magistrate Court, Hausawa Upper Sharia Court, Filin Hockey Court, and Nomansland Magistrate Court.
The Attorney-General was accompanied by the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, Salisu Tahir, alongside other members of the Ministry.
During the visits, the Attorney-General observed court proceedings and assessed the performance of State Counsel handling matters on behalf of the Ministry of Justice. He also held discussions with Presiding Magistrates and State Counsel on ways to enhance efficiency in the administration of justice.
As part of the exercise, Maude interacted directly with accused persons, including those facing capital offences. He listened to them individually to understand the status of their cases, identify challenges affecting the progress of proceedings, and ensure that justice is administered fairly and without unnecessary delays.
The Attorney-General also engaged other court users to obtain feedback on their experiences and identify areas requiring improvement within the justice system.
The visits underscore the commitment of the Kano State Ministry of Justice to promoting access to justice, protecting the rights of citizens, and strengthening public confidence in the judicial process.
According to the Commissioner, the exercise is in line with the vision of the administration of His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, which prioritizes accessible justice, accountability, protection of rights, and the efficient administration of justice across Kano State.
