ABUJA: The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed Dr. Chiogo Constance Ikokwu, a former Arise News anchor and experienced journalist, as spokesperson for the Obi-Kwankwaso National Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ikokwu’s appointment was contained in the list of appointments released by the party as it moves to strengthen its communications strategy and public engagement ahead of the forthcoming presidential election.
With more than two decades of experience across print, radio and television journalism, Ikokwu brings extensive expertise in political communication, media strategy and international affairs to her new assignment.
Her professional career includes serving as Washington, DC Bureau Chief and Deputy Editor at THISDAY Newspapers, as well as working as a political analyst and anchor at Arise News, where she contributed to public discussions on politics, governance and national affairs.
Beyond journalism, Ikokwu has an academic background in communications and media studies. She holds a PhD in Journalism and Communications, with research focusing on the relationship between the media and politics.
She has also served as Strategic Communications Adviser to former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okechukwu Enelamah, further strengthening her experience in strategic messaging and public-sector communications.
Ikokwu recently participated in the NDC’s nomination process for the House of Representatives seat representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in Anambra State, demonstrating her growing involvement in partisan politics and public service.
In her new role, she is expected to help communicate the policy positions of the Obi-Kwankwaso political platform, articulate the campaign’s messages, engage journalists and provide clarity on the council’s programmes and priorities.
Her appointment comes as political parties and emerging political platforms intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections, with media engagement and strategic communication expected to play significant roles in shaping public opinion.
Ikokwu’s combination of journalism, academic research, political analysis and government communications experience is expected to contribute to the campaign council’s efforts to reach Nigerians and communicate its agenda to voters.
The NDC has recently unveiled a 118-member National Campaign Council, with former Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson named chairman and Peter Obi designated co-chairman, according to reports on the party’s appointments.
As the political landscape ahead of 2027 continues to evolve, the effectiveness of the campaign council’s communications strategy will be closely watched, particularly as political platforms seek to explain their policy proposals and appeal to voters across the country.
RapidoSpace News will continue to monitor developments surrounding the NDC, the Obi-Kwankwaso campaign and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
