ASABA: Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori called on government agencies and other employers of corps members to welcome them and create a conducive environment for them to excel.
Oborevwori made the statement during the closing ceremony of the orientation program for Batch C, Stream 1 corps members in Issele-Uku, with Mr. Harry Trakiriowei, the state Commissioner for Youth Development, standing in for him.
The governor urged all local government officials, traditional rulers, community leaders, and security agencies to prioritize the safety and well-being of the corps members. Make security a top priority and provide a peaceful and interactive atmosphere for these young people, so they can fully integrate into their host communities and contribute to the development of Delta State, he said.
He highlighted the significant contributions of corps members to various Delta communities, which had benefitted from development projects initiated by them. As you head into your communities, be worthy ambassadors of the NYSC scheme and strive to make a lasting impression on the hearts of the people, Oborevwori added. He encouraged the corps members to serve diligently, showing commitment, and to be role models and mentors to the youth in the communities.
Oborevwori assured the corps members that the state government would continue to fulfill its responsibilities to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) within available resources. “We will also continue to reward outstanding service and support initiatives that benefit our people,” he emphasized.
The governor also pledged to further improve the permanent orientation camp, making it more conducive for training and induction of corps members.
He commended the corps members for their exemplary behavior throughout the orientation course and encouraged them to respect the culture and traditions of their host communities.
Delta State is a safe and welcoming place, and I assure you that Deltans will offer you warmth and love wherever you’re posted for your primary assignment, he said. While there may be some differences between your way of life and that of the people, it’s important to demonstrate understanding, adaptability, and respect.
Mr. John Kwaghe, the Delta State Coordinator of NYSC, praised the corps members for their dedication, discipline, and readiness to serve. He urged them to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired during the orientation.
Your service year offers a unique opportunity for personal and professional growth while making meaningful contributions to the nation, Kwaghe concluded.
