AKURE: Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Ayedatiwa, has been officially declared the winner of the state’s 2024 governorship election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed Ayedatiwa’s victory after he secured a commanding win in all 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
Ayedatiwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, triumphed with a total of 366,781 votes, defeating Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 117,845 votes. The final result was announced by the State Returning Officer, Professor Olayemi Akinwumi, at the State Collation Centre in Akure.
According to Professor Akinwumi, the election saw a total of 497,077 valid votes cast, with 11,886 votes rejected and 508,963 votes cast in total. After the final tally of results from the last three LGAs Ilaje, Ese Odo, and Odigbo Ayedatiwa was declared the governor elect, having met all the legal requirements.

Notably, Ayedatiwa won decisively in all 18 LGAs, including the PDP stronghold of Idanre, where he beat the PDP with 14,157 votes to their 5,897. Other key results included victories in Okitipupa, Akure North, and Ese Odo.
The collation process, which began on Sunday at around 12:10 am, faced minor controversies, with PDP agents alleging irregularities in some areas, including claims of voting disruptions and ballot snatching in Ofosun Oniseri. However, the results from the affected areas were included in the final tally, and all-party agents, including the PDP, signed off on the final result sheet.
With this win, Ayedatiwa has secured a fresh mandate to lead the state, continuing the APC’s governance in Ondo.
