Breaking: Ebola Index Patient Reportedly Evacuated from Nigeria by Air Ambulance

A woman reportedly diagnosed with Ebola virus disease in Nigeria has been evacuated from the country aboard a medical air ambulance, according to a report by ARISE News.

The report, citing sources familiar with the development, said the patient, identified as the wife of a Swiss diplomat in Nigeria, was evacuated early Monday morning through the private jet section of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

According to ARISE News, its sources had indicated that the medical evacuation was scheduled for about 6 a.m., with a medical evacuation aircraft already positioned at the airport to transport the patient.

The news organisation said its crew deployed to the General Aviation Terminal subsequently observed a convoy of three vehicles arriving from Abuja city centre, with diplomatic vehicles reportedly accompanying the group.

The convoy was said to have included a vehicle belonging to an international agency before entering the airport’s private aviation section.

ARISE News further reported that airport officials cordoned off the private wing while arrangements for the medical evacuation were underway. The organisation said it later obtained video footage showing a medical evacuation aircraft and its crew preparing to transport the patient.

The report added that a source indicated the Federal Government intended to announce the evacuation after the aircraft had taken off and left Nigerian airspace.

However, as of the time of this report, RapidoSpace News has not independently verified the patient’s evacuation, her current location or the official circumstances surrounding the reported transfer.

The development comes amid concerns over the reported Ebola case in Nigeria. Ebola virus disease is a severe and potentially fatal illness that requires urgent medical attention, appropriate isolation measures and strict infection prevention and control procedures.

Health authorities typically coordinate the management of suspected or confirmed Ebola cases, including contact tracing, clinical care and measures to prevent further transmission.

The Federal Government and relevant health agencies are expected to provide authoritative updates on the reported case, the patient’s medical evacuation and any public health measures considered necessary.

RapidoSpace News will continue to monitor the situation and update this report as verified information becomes available.
