Tinubu Appoints Festus Keyamo to Head APC Air Mobilisation Directorate for 2027 Campaign

ABUJA: President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to head the Directorate of Air Mobilisation for the All-Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 presidential re-election campaign.

The appointment is expected to strengthen the party’s aviation logistics and travel coordination as it prepares for a nationwide campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to a statement issued by Keyamo’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, the minister will serve as Director of the Directorate of Air Mobilisation.

The statement also announced the appointment of the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, as Deputy Director I, while Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar will serve as Deputy Director II.

The appointments reflect the importance of air transportation and logistical coordination in organising a presidential campaign across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The Directorate of Air Mobilisation is expected to coordinate air travel arrangements for designated campaign officials and personnel, facilitate movement between campaign locations and support the broader campaign organisation through effective scheduling and logistical planning.

Given the geographical spread of Nigeria and the demands of a nationwide presidential campaign, the directorate is expected to work with other campaign structures to improve coordination and the efficient deployment of resources.

In explaining the rationale behind Keyamo’s appointment, the statement highlighted his experience as a serving aviation minister and his involvement in initiatives aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s aviation sector and improving its international standing.

His familiarity with aviation operations is expected to assist the directorate in developing a framework for coordinating campaign-related air transportation.

The appointment of Kuku and Umar is also expected to bring aviation-sector leadership and technical expertise into the directorate, particularly in planning and coordinating movements associated with campaign activities.

The air mobilisation appointments form part of the APC’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, as the party works to organise its campaign leadership and operational structures.

The directorate is expected to collaborate with other campaign departments to coordinate travel schedules, facilitate movements across states and ensure that campaign activities are supported by appropriate logistical arrangements.

The statement further emphasised that all campaign-related aviation activities must comply with applicable aviation safety requirements and electoral laws.

It also stressed the need to maintain a clear distinction between political campaign operations and official government functions, noting that campaign arrangements should be conducted through properly authorised channels.

This distinction is particularly important because Keyamo is a serving minister, while Kuku heads a federal government agency responsible for airport operations.

The extent to which the directorate will rely on privately arranged campaign resources, as well as the procedures for ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, will be important considerations as the campaign organisation takes shape.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, further appointments and operational arrangements are expected as the APC continues to prepare its presidential campaign.
