LAGOS: Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has been honoured as the Best Council in Agriculture for the Year 2025 by the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems.
The announcement was made during this year’s World Food Day Celebration held in Lagos, where the Council, under the leadership of Hon. (Dr.) Bayo Adefuye, was recognized for its outstanding contributions to agricultural development and food security at the grassroots level.
The recognition, according to the Ministry, underscores Yaba LCDA’s consistent commitment to agricultural innovation, food sustainability, and community empowerment through various local initiatives.
The award was formally presented to the Council’s Head of Department (HOD) for Agriculture and other representatives of Yaba LCDA who attended the event on behalf of the Executive Chairman.
During the celebration, the Yaba LCDA delegation also displayed a wide range of agricultural produce and processed food items cultivated through its local farming projectshighlighting the Council’s active role in advancing Lagos State’s agricultural and food systems agenda.
In his reaction, Hon. (Dr.) Bayo Adefuye expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the Ministry of Agriculture & Food Systems for acknowledging the Council’s ongoing efforts in agricultural development.
He commended the dedication of the Council’s Agriculture Department for their close collaboration with farmers, women, and youths through various empowerment and training programmes that promote self-reliance and sustainable food production.
This award reflects the commitment and teamwork of our Agriculture Department and the entire Yaba LCDA family.
It inspires us to continue supporting sustainable agriculture and food production at the grassroots. I dedicate this honour to the people of Yaba LCDA, whose cooperation and resilience make our achievements possible,” Adefuye stated.
He further reaffirmed his administration’s determination to deepen investments in agricultural initiatives that drive urban farming, youth engagement, and innovation in food systems, in alignment with the Lagos State Government’s vision for food security and environmental sustainability.
This latest recognition reinforces Yaba LCDA’s position as a trailblazer among local councils in Lagos State not only in governance and community development but also in sustainable agriculture and grassroots impact.
