ABUJA: The National Secretary of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), Ajibola Basiru, has asked the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to resign from President Bola Tinubu’s administration and concentrate on Rivers State politics.
Basiru, in a statement on Monday, said Wike has no authority to interfere in the affairs of the ruling party, stressing that the minister is not a member of the APC and therefore lacks the standing to comment on its leadership or activities.
He described himself as the head of the APC National Secretariat, noting that his duties are not limited to Osun State or any single region.
According to him, Wike has no locus to engage him on APC matters unless he formally joins the party.
The APC scribe also dismissed what he termed veiled threats from the FCT minister, insisting he could not be intimidated.
He said his political background and record in public service speak for themselves and are beyond reproach by non-members of the party.
Basiru further denied allegations linking him to Rivers State funds, including claims surrounding the state’s reported N600 billion allocation, describing such assertions as baseless.
His response followed comments by Wike during a visit to Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State, where the minister warned Basiru to stay away from the state’s political affairs.
The exchange comes amid rising tensions over River’s politics and the rift between Wike and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
