The Obedient Movement has reiterated that its support within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is strictly for the emergence of Peter Obi as the party’s presidential candidate.
The movement clarified that it will not support Obi as a vice-presidential candidate to anyone, contrary to reports suggesting otherwise.
The clarification followed claims attributed to the group’s National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, that the movement would remain in the ADC even if Obi fails to secure the party’s presidential ticket.
Reacting in a fresh statement, Tanko dismissed the reports as deliberate misrepresentations and malicious propaganda.
According to the statement, the Obidient Movement remains fully committed to Obi’s presidential ambition, stressing that its ideals, energy, and collective resolve are aligned with his leadership vision.
Without equivocation, the Obedient Movement is unequivocally committed to the presidential aspiration of Mr. Peter Obi, the statement read.
It added that the movement reserves the right to align with any political party that supports Obi’s principles and vision but made it clear that its backing is solely for his emergence as President of Nigeria.
Let it be stated clearly and without ambiguity: the Obedient Movement is not mobilized to support Mr. Peter Obi as a vice-presidential candidate to anyone. Our support is exclusively for his emergence as President of Nigeria, the statement said.
The movement disclosed that it is currently supporting Obi on the platform of the ADC as he seeks the party’s presidential ticket, noting that it would respect the outcome of the process if it were transparent, credible, and fair.
However, it warned that if the process is compromised, the movement would take a united, lawful, and democratic decision in line with its core principles.
