WARRI: Suspected thugs have reportedly disrupted a campaign activity involving supporters of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi and his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, in Warri, Delta State.
The alleged incident occurred on Friday, September 18, 2026, as members of the Obidient and Kwankwasiya movements were reportedly mobilising support for the NDC ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Esther Umoh, identified as a photographer associated with Peter Obi, raised the alarm in a post on X, alleging that politically sponsored individuals attacked members of the campaign team.
According to Umoh, the alleged attackers targeted members of the entourage of the NDC governorship candidate in Delta State, as well as other supporters participating in the campaign activities in Warri.
She wrote that “politically sponsored thugs” had reportedly opened fire on members of the group and named several individuals whom she alleged were among those targeted.
However, the allegations had not been independently verified at the time of reporting.
A video circulated alongside the allegations shows a chaotic scene involving several people. A voice in the recording could be heard accusing the individuals present of being thugs who had allegedly come to attack the campaigners.
The footage has generated reactions online as political activities intensify across the country ahead of the 2027 elections.
There was no immediate independent confirmation in the report establishing who organised the alleged attack, whether firearms were actually used, or whether anyone sustained injuries.
The reported Warri incident comes amid increased political mobilisation by supporters of Obi and Kwankwaso, who are campaigning under the NDC platform.
The development also follows a separate confrontation involving Obi’s convoy in Benue State earlier in September.
During that incident, youths blocked the road as Obi was travelling towards Yelwata. Police confirmed that the convoy had been obstructed and said an investigation was underway, while competing political narratives emerged over who was responsible for the mobilisation.
The OK Movement, which supports the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, subsequently condemned the Benue incident and called for an impartial investigation. The group said its security personnel exercised restraint to prevent the situation from escalating.
The Warri allegations are likely to attract further attention as political parties and support groups step up grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential and governorship elections.
As of the time of publication, no statement from the Delta State Police Command or other security authorities had been included in the report confirming the circumstances surrounding the alleged Warri attack.
