Tinubu Approves Nationwide Social Action Task Force to Drive Grassroots Development Across 8,804 Wards

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a Community-Based National Social Action Fund Task Force to accelerate grassroots development across Nigeria’s 8,804 wards.

The initiative, disclosed in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, is designed to promote community-driven projects tailored to local needs.

Under the plan, each ward will partner with a verified community-based organisation or association to execute priority development initiatives.

According to the ministry, the programme builds on earlier reforms, including the Social Action Fund (SAF) introduced in 2023 and the Community-Based Procurement Platform launched in January 2026, both aimed at improving access to funding for local projects valued at up to ₦50 million.

Implementation is scheduled to run from March to December, with a Programme Management Unit under the Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp) coordinating office overseeing execution and compliance.

To support the rollout, the Federal Government has approved the release of ₦17 billion through the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General.

The task force will be chaired by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare and include top government officials and regulatory agencies to ensure transparency and accountability.

The initiative is expected to boost local development, improve service delivery, and strengthen community participation nationwide.
