Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has alleged that the recent spike in insecurity across Nigeria is being sponsored by opposition elements seeking to discredit President Bola Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the forthcoming local government elections in Edo South Senatorial District, Okpebholo insisted that no amount of political sabotage would stop President Tinubu from retaining power.
They can even kidnap all of us—yes, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock,” the governor declared.
According to him, the growing cases of kidnapping and insecurity are part of a deliberate plot by political opponents to tarnish the image of the current administration.
He argued that those behind the insecurity crisis would not secure seats in the Senate, House of Representatives or the Presidency through such actions, maintaining that President Tinubu’s position remains secure.
There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition. They have failed. Have they not failed? Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern. So let them give us peace so that we can rule well, he said.
Okpebholo further praised President Tinubu’s leadership, claiming the administration had achieved more for Nigeria than previous governments.
He noted that the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy was already visible through various developmental projects across Edo State.
The governor also congratulated candidates who emerged from the APC primaries ahead of the local government elections, expressing confidence that the party would record a landslide victory.
He added that the expected success in the council polls would pave the way for delivering the 2.5 million votes allegedly promised to President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
