A shocking tragedy has thrown residents of the Igando area of Lagos State into mourning after a couple allegedly beat their 10-year-old adopted daughter to death and reportedly kept her body hidden inside their apartment for several days.
The heartbreaking incident, which has sparked outrage across the community, was revealed by an eyewitness who described disturbing events leading to the discovery of the child’s death.
According to residents, the young girl had allegedly suffered repeated abuse in the hands of the couple before the situation turned fatal.
The eyewitness explained that neighbours became suspicious after noticing unusual movements around the apartment and observing that the child had suddenly disappeared from public view.
Residents reportedly observed people moving in and out of the compound under strange circumstances, while the occupants of the apartment allegedly continued with their normal daily activities despite the disturbing atmosphere surrounding the residence.
“As neighbours, we started noticing something was wrong because the little girl was no longer seen around. There were strange movements in the compound and people coming in and out. That was when suspicions started growing,” the eyewitness reportedly said.
The situation reportedly escalated after residents confronted the occupants and demanded answers concerning the whereabouts of the child.
According to reports, the couple allegedly failed to give satisfactory explanations, leading to further tension within the neighbourhood before the shocking discovery was eventually made.
Sources within the community claimed the child’s body had allegedly been wrapped and kept inside the apartment for days before neighbours raised alarm.
The disturbing development has left many residents traumatised, with some describing the incident as one of the most horrifying cases of child abuse witnessed in the area.
Many residents gathered around the compound after news of the alleged killing spread, expressing anger and disbelief over the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Community members have since called on security agencies to ensure justice is served while demanding stronger protection for vulnerable children, especially adopted and fostered minors who may be exposed to abuse behind closed doors.
The incident has also reignited conversations about child welfare, domestic abuse, and the need for closer monitoring of adoptive homes across Nigeria.
Police authorities are said to have commenced investigations into the matter, although officials are yet to release full details regarding arrests or possible charges linked to the case.
Child rights advocates have continued to condemn the alleged killing, describing it as a tragic reminder of the dangers many children silently face in abusive homes.
As investigations continue, residents of Igando remain in shock over the tragic death of a young girl whose life was allegedly cut short by the very people expected to care for and protect her.
