Super Eagles Get Outstanding Bonuses, Shift Focus to Gabon Clash

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have confirmed that all outstanding allowances and bonuses owed to the team by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have now been fully paid.

Team captain William Troost-Ekong made this known in a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, noting that the players are now focused on Thursday’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup CAF qualifier against Gabon.

Issue RESOLVED. Outstanding financials cleared and on ground. Team is UNITED and focused as before on representing NIGERIA with our maximum for the games ahead! Ekong wrote.

His post followed reports that the team had boycotted training on Tuesday in protest over unpaid entitlements. Ekong had earlier clarified that the players were not making any new demands, only asking for what was due to them.

The Super Eagles are expected to face Gabon in Rabat, Morocco, on Thursday at 4 p.m. Nigerian time. The winner of the encounter will progress to the play-off final, where they will meet either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Head coach Eric Chelle invited 24 players for the clash, coming weeks after Nigeria sealed a play-off spot with a 4–0 win over Benin Republic.

Players confirmed in camp include Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Samuel Chukwueze, Wilfred Ndidi, Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, William Troost-Ekong, Chidera Ejuke, and Stanley Nwabali, among others.
