SOKOTO: The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, identified as Sufiyanu Aliyu, for allegedly killing his 15-year-old wife, Suwaiba Abubakar Bawa, in Gwanyal Village, Tangaza Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, the tragic incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on October 27 following a heated disagreement between the couple Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect used a knife to inflict fatal injuries on the victim, leading to her death.
Upon receiving the report, police operatives were immediately dispatched to the scene.
The area was cordoned off and processed for forensic analysis. The suspect was arrested at the scene, and a knife believed to be the murder weapon was recovered the statement read.
The victim’s body was later evacuated to a nearby hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death.
Rufai added that during interrogation, Aliyu confessed to committing the crime.
The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, commended the swift action of officers involved in the case and assured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice.
He reiterated that the police would continue to protect lives and property while upholding the rule of law in all criminal matters.
