The Sokoto State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Local Governments has commended the Kebbe Local Government Area administration for its commitment to financial accountability, transparency and prudent management of public resources.
The commendation followed an official engagement between the council and the Assembly committee at the Mini Chamber of the Sokoto State House of Assembly.
The acknowledgement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Secretary of Kebbe Local Government, Hon. Shamsudeen Umar Maiakwai.
According to the committee, the engagement reinforced the importance of ensuring that public funds are managed in accordance with established laws, financial regulations and administrative procedures.
The committee said proper financial administration was not simply an official requirement but a responsibility owed to residents whose resources were entrusted to government.
It also acknowledged what it described as Kebbe Local Government’s continued adherence to due process, proper financial documentation and established financial procedures.
The lawmakers stressed that maintaining accurate and verifiable financial records was essential to protecting public resources and strengthening public confidence in local government administration.
The committee encouraged the Kebbe council administration to maintain and further improve its financial management standards.
It noted that consistency in record-keeping, accountability and financial discipline remained essential to effective public administration.
The committee also said the progress recorded in Kebbe could serve as an institutional example for other local government areas seeking to strengthen their financial systems.
According to the lawmakers, legislative oversight remains an important mechanism for ensuring that public institutions operate within the framework of existing laws and regulations.
They emphasised that government resources must be properly accounted for and that public expenditure should be backed by appropriate documentation and follow due process.
Responding to the commendation, the Kebbe Local Government administration reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, financial discipline and proper record-keeping.
The council said it would continue to improve its administrative systems and public service delivery while ensuring that resources entrusted to the local government are managed responsibly.
The administration said its objective was to strengthen institutional accountability and ensure that public funds were deployed for legitimate purposes and in the interest of the people.
