Reno Omokri Wishes Peter Obi a Happy 64th Birthday Despite Political Differences

ABUJA: In a rare and gracious gesture, Reno Omokri, a prominent political commentator and one of the most vocal critics of Peter Obi, extended warm birthday wishes to the former Governor of Anambra State on his 64th birthday.

Despite their long-standing political disagreementsespecially since Obi declared his intention to run for president under the Labour Party in 2022 Omokri set politics aside to honor a fellow Nigerian leader.

Peter Obi, who has become a major political force both in Nigeria and among the diaspora, continues to command national and international attention. His 2022 presidential bid gave rise to the Obidient Movement, a youth-driven, organic political wave that redefined civic engagement in Nigeria.

Regarded for his modest lifestyle, transparency, and disciplined leadership, Obi has become one of the most influential politicians in Africa today.

Reno Omokri, a former aide to President Goodluck Jonathan and staunch supporter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has consistently critiqued Peter Obi’s political approach and the fervor of his support base. However, in a tweet posted on July 19, Omokri took a surprisingly warm tone, writing:

Here is wishing Peter Obi [a] 64th birthday. May God bless you and make you a better person. My family and I pray for your health and continued wealth, even as we wish you to grow stealth. May Biblical goodness and mercy be your life story henceforth, and may God reward you.

This message has drawn attention and sparked reactions across social media, with many Nigerians praising Omokri’s gesture as an example of political maturity and human decency.

In a political climate often dominated by hostility and personal attacks, his message stood out as a reminder that rivalry should not erase respect.

Peter Obi, though often criticized by opponents, remains widely admired for his performance as governor and his consistent advocacy for responsible governance, economic prudence, and youth empowerment.

His ability to remain relevant and beloved by millions particularly among younger voters—continues to shape Nigeria’s political landscape.

Omokri’s public prayer and goodwill message, coming from a known political opponent, reflects a broader aspiration for civility in Nigeria’s democratic space. It underscores the possibility of unity and respect beyond party lines, even in the heat of national debates.

As Nigeria looks to the future, such gestures may pave the way for more constructive and respectful political dialogue.
