Promises broken, trust lost’ – Isak takes aim at Newcastle in explosive statement

ENGLAND: Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has released a strongly worded statement criticizing the club’s handling of his future, insisting the “relationship can’t continue” as he pushes for a transfer to Liverpool.

The Swedish forward, who was named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Season (2024/25), was notably absent from Monday night’s award ceremony in Manchester. Instead, he addressed fans via Instagram, thanking his peers for the recognition but accusing Newcastle of breaking key promises.

I’m proud to be recognised by my fellow professionals with a place in the PFA Team of the Season. First and foremost, I want to thank my teammates and everyone at Newcastle United who have supported me along the way, Isak wrote.

I’ve kept quiet for a long time while others have spoken. That silence has allowed people to push their own version of events, even though they know it doesn’t reflect what was really said and agreed behind closed doors.

The reality is that promises were made and the club has known my position for a long time. To now act as if these issues are only emerging is misleading. When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue.

That’s where things are for me right now and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.

Isak has been at the centre of transfer speculation all summer, with Liverpool making multiple bids to lure him to Anfield. However, Newcastle is yet to sanction a deal, leading to a standoff between the player and the club.

The 25-year-old has already been frozen out of Eddie Howe’s squad, forced to train alone and omitted from the matchday lineup in Newcastle’s season opener against Aston Villa.

Liverpool, fresh off their Premier League title win, remain keen on securing Isak as Jürgen Klopp looks to strengthen his attack. Reports suggest the Reds are preparing a renewed offer, with Isak making it clear he sees his future away from St. James’ Park.

With tensions rising and the striker openly declaring that trust has broken down, Newcastle faces a pivotal decision: hold firm on their valuation or allow their star forward to seal a move that could reshape the Premier League title race.
