Peter Obi Visits Olubadan-Designate, Advocates for National Unity

IBADAN: Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, on Sunday urged Nigerians to embrace unity across tribal, religious, and political divides to build a stronger nation.

Speaking during a visit to the Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, Obi emphasized the importance of love and collective effort in shaping a better Nigeria.

I’m here to pay my respects to royalty and congratulate Oba Ladoja, the next 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Obi said.

This visit is about Nigeria and selfless leadership to transform our society. We must unite and love one another to build a better country our only home.

Obi highlighted Ibadan’s strategic role in Nigeria’s political, social, and economic development, noting its historical significance as a hub for institutions like the University of Ibadan, which has educated Nigerians from diverse backgrounds.

He expressed confidence in Ladoja’s ability to leverage his experience as a former senator, governor, and business magnate to elevate Ibadan’s status.

Ladoja’s wealth of experience will ensure his success as Olubadan, and I will support him for the sake of a united Nigeria, Obi added.

In response, Oba Ladoja described his new role as an opportunity for service, not glamour. The throne today is about what you can offer society, he said.

Obi was accompanied by Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Labour Party governorship candidate in Lagos, and Yunusa Tanko, among others.

In a separate visit, House of Representatives members Sina Oyedeji (Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Iwajowa/Kajola) and Adebayo Adepoju (Ibarapa North/Ibarapa Central), both of the People’s Democratic Party, also paid homage to Oba Ladoja.

They described him as a father figure and a national leader, not just for Ibadan but for Nigeria.

Oba Ladoja advised us to serve our people diligently and not disappoint them, the lawmakers told journalists after the visit.
