Olubadan to Promote Nine Ibadan Chiefs on Balogun Line

IBADAN:  The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, is scheduled to promote nine traditional chiefs on the Balogun line of Ibadan’s chieftaincy hierarchy on Friday, October 23, 2026.

The planned promotions were announced by Akin Alabi, a member of the House of Representatives and Aare Onibon Olubadan of Ibadanland, in a post on his X account on Thursday.

According to Alabi, the ceremony will take place at the Olubadan’s palace and will see the chiefs advance to their next ranks in the traditional succession system.

The promotions involve chiefs occupying various positions on the Balogun line, one of the two principal lines in Ibadanland’s traditional chieftaincy structure.

The nine chiefs and their expected new positions are:

  1. Chief Lateef Adetokunbo Akintola — from Aare Ago Balogun to Ayingun Balogun.
  2. Chief Nureni Adebayo Akanbi — from Lagunna Balogun to Aare Ago Balogun.
  3. Chief Kayode Afolabi Kadelu — from Oota Balogun to Lagunna Balogun.
  4. Chief Adegboyegba Taofeek Adegoke — from Aare Egbe Omo Balogun to Oota Balogun.
  5. Chief Monsur Abiola Olatunji Arulogun — from Gbonka Balogun to Aare Egbe Omo Balogun.
  6. Chief Taiwo Ige Akande Odunlami — from Aare Onibon Balogun to Gbonka Balogun.
  7. Chief Remi Babalola Ogidi — from Bada Balogun to Aare Onibon Balogun.
  8. Chief Adenrele Lekan Salami — from Ajia Balogun to Bada Balogun.
  9. Chief Adewale Abass Kadri — from Jagun Balogun to Ajia Balogun.

Alabi congratulated the chiefs ahead of their anticipated elevation, describing them as Olubadan-in-Line chiefs scheduled for promotion by Oba Ladoja.

The lawmaker also disclosed that the promotion of Chief Adewale Abass Kadri from Jagun Balogun to Ajia Balogun would leave the position of Jagun Balogun vacant.

The anticipated exercise forms part of the traditional succession process through which chiefs advance through established ranks towards senior positions in the Ibadan chieftaincy institution.

Alabi wished the chiefs success as they prepare to assume their new positions and continue their service to Ibadanland.

The promotions, scheduled for Friday, are expected to mark another development in the traditional leadership structure of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
