Oborevwori Signs Delta’s ₦1.729trn 2026 Budget into Law

ASABA: Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has signed into law the state’s 2026 Appropriation Bill valued at ₦1.729 trillion, tagged the Budget of Accelerating the MORE Agenda.

The governor also assented to three other bills passed by the Delta State House of Assembly: The Delta State Social Investment Programme Law, the Delta State Colleges of Education Law, 2025, and the Delta State Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Cultism (Amendment) Law, 2025.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Oborevwori described the 2026 budget as more than a fiscal document, noting that it represents a clear roadmap of vision, action and measurable outcomes for the coming year.

He assured Deltans that his administration would “hit the ground running in 2026” to accelerate development across critical sectors of the state’s economy.

The ₦1.729 trillion budget reflects an increase of over 70 per cent compared to the 2025 fiscal year.

Of the total sum, 70 per cent is allocated to capital expenditure, while 30 per cent is earmarked for recurrent spending, underscoring the government’s strong emphasis on infrastructure development and long-term economic sustainability.

Reflecting on the outgoing fiscal year, the governor highlighted achievements in infrastructure delivery, security enhancement, fiscal discipline and improved revenue generation.

He noted that internally generated revenue had grown significantly without placing additional financial burdens on citizens.
