ABUJA: The Obidient Movement has expressed concern over an alleged malfunction of the Independent National Electoral Commission’s results viewing platform during the ongoing Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.
The group claimed that results reportedly uploaded from several polling units were not reflecting on the INEC Results Viewing Portal (IReV), raising fears about transparency in the electoral process.
The elections, taking place across the six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory — Abuja Municipal Area Council, Bwari, Gwagwalada, Kuje, Abaji and Kwali — are widely regarded as a key test of grassroots political strength in Nigeria’s capital.
In a statement issued on Saturday and titled Alert from the Obidient Movement Headquarters, the National Coordinator of the movement worldwide, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, urged supporters and Nigerians to remain vigilant throughout the collation process.
According to the statement, information available to the movement suggested that while the IReV server remained active, uploaded polling unit results were allegedly not visible on the platform.
The group called on citizens to peacefully monitor the collation exercise at designated centres, including the Area 10 INEC office and Karu, while ensuring they retain authentic results obtained from their respective polling units for verification purposes.
The Obidient Movement further appealed to Nigerians to remain calm, law-abiding and committed to safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process through peaceful and lawful means.
The IReV portal, introduced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, was designed to enhance transparency by allowing real-time public access to polling unit results uploaded directly from the field.
As of the time of filing this report, INEC had yet to officially respond to the allegations concerning the alleged glitch.
