LONDON: Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Ange Postecoglou after just eight matches in charge, following the club’s 3–0 home defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.
The decision was announced only minutes after full-time, confirming the end of the Australian coach’s short and turbulent spell at the City Ground.
In a brief statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the club wrote:
Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The club will make no further comment at this time.
Reports say club owner Evangelos Marinakis stormed out of his seat before the final whistle, and confirmation of Postecoglou’s dismissal came shortly afterward.
Postecoglou, who was appointed on September 9, arrived at Forest on a wave of optimism after winning the Europa League with Tottenham earlier this year.
But his tenure quickly unraveled, with no wins and six defeats in eight games, leaving Forest hovering near the relegation zone.
Despite his earlier confidence, when he declared in his pre-match press conference that if I’m given time at a club, it always ends with me and a trophy, the Forest board lost patience after a run of poor results.
Forest have now parted ways with three managers this season, and the club is said to be urgently searching for a replacement.
Early reports suggest that former Burnley and Everton boss Sean Dyche is among the top contenders for the vacant position.
