CALABAR: A Nigerian businesswoman, Roberta Edu, has sparked conversation on social media after alleging that many Nigerian men are bigger gold diggers than women.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Edu who is the CEO of Moppet Foods shared a message she received from a younger man professing love and offering to be her hubby and friend.
The entrepreneur noted that many men who often claim they cannot date or marry older women or single mothers tend to change their stance once money is involved.
According to her, wealth often attracts younger men who are quick to propose to financially successful women, regardless of marital status or age.
Nobody digs gold more than a Nigerian man, Edu wrote. All that talk about not marrying older women or single mothers. What they actually mean is they won’t marry broke ones.
She added that despite being married with children, she still receives romantic messages from young men who perceive her as wealthy.
Edu advised women to pursue financial independence rather than worrying about whether men will marry them, saying that money often changes societal attitudes toward women.
Just make money, and you’ll see humble, fine young men ready to marry, she wrote.
Her post has since gone viral, sparking debates about gender roles, marriage dynamics, and the perception of wealth in relationships.
