LONDON: Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has renewed his call for national transformation, accountability and inclusive development following a series of meetings with British government officials and Nigerian diaspora stakeholders in the United Kingdom.
Obi disclosed that he arrived in London at 7 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, from Basel, Switzerland, for a busy schedule of engagements, including discussions with stakeholders on Nigeria’s future.
According to him, he concluded the day’s activities with a meeting organised by the Chief of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM) and the New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Diaspora Affairs, which brought together other stakeholders in London.
In a statement reflecting on the engagements, Obi said the discussions with British government officials and members of the Nigerian diaspora focused on the collective responsibility of rebuilding Nigeria and addressing persistent challenges undermining national development.
He identified bad leadership, corruption and a lack of accountability as major obstacles to the country’s progress, arguing that these problems have continued to deprive millions of Nigerians of essential services and economic opportunities.
Obi noted that many citizens still struggle to access quality healthcare, education and decent employment, stressing the need for a country that provides fair opportunities for all.
He said Nigerians deserved a nation where every life is valued, hard work is rewarded and citizens can achieve success regardless of their background or personal connections.
Emphasising his vision for an inclusive society, the former Anambra State governor declared: “We must build a Nigeria where the child of nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.”
He added that the country should work for everyone rather than serving the interests of a privileged few.
Obi concluded his message with his familiar declaration: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
The London engagements come amid growing political activities and discussions among Nigerian political stakeholders at home and abroad ahead of the 2027 general elections
