LAGOS: The Nigerian Law School has confirmed the death of a 23-year-old student, Faith Alayande, following a fall from the rooftop of its Lagos Campus hostel.
Alayande, who was a student of the Nigerian Law School’s Enugu Campus, was temporarily staying at the Lagos Campus hostel while undertaking an externship programme in Lagos.
The institution confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, Aderonke O. Osho.

The Law School said preliminary information indicated that Alayande fell from the rooftop of the hostel and subsequently died from the incident.
The institution, however, said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
“Management is working closely with the appropriate authorities and the family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident, ensure that all necessary procedures are duly followed, and provide further information as appropriate,” the statement said.
The Law School did not provide further details about what led to the incident.
The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed the incident, saying the hostel matron reported the case after the student was found unresponsive on the premises.
Police officers reportedly visited the scene and evacuated the deceased’s remains to a morgue, while an investigation was commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
According to the report, a hostel mate and a relative had allegedly found a suicide note and subsequently began searching for Alayande before she was found unresponsive following the fall.
However, the Nigerian Law School’s official statement did not independently confirm the details surrounding the reported note or the events leading to the fall.
The Nigerian Law School expressed sadness over the death and extended its condolences to Alayande’s family, colleagues and others affected by the tragedy.
The institution said its thoughts and prayers were with the family as they mourned the loss.
Management also appealed to the media and members of the public to respect the family’s privacy during the difficult period.
The Law School urged everyone to honour the family’s request for space and refrain from actions that could further deepen their grief.
The Nigerian Law School also reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, welfare and wellbeing of its students and staff.
The circumstances surrounding Alayande’s death remain under investigation by the relevant authorities.
The institution said it would provide further information where appropriate as the process continues.
