IKEJA: The Lagos State chapter of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled two former members, Ganiyu Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf, following allegations of anti-party activities and disloyalty.
The decision was announced by the Lagos APC on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, with the party accusing the two politicians of conduct it said was inconsistent with its rules and disciplinary standards.
Egunjobi, a former chairman of Agege Local Government, and Yusuf had contested the APC primaries for Agege Constituency I and Agege Constituency II respectively during the 2026 Lagos State House of Assembly nomination process.
According to the party, both men failed to secure the APC tickets but subsequently obtained nomination tickets from another political party, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), rather than remain within the APC or pursue the party’s internal avenues for redress.
Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, said the conduct amounted to a breach of the obligations expected of party members.
Ojelabi argued that membership of the APC could not be treated as something to be used during a primary election and abandoned after an unsuccessful bid for the party’s ticket.
He said members were free to seek elective positions but were expected to pursue such ambitions within the framework of the APC constitution and relevant electoral laws.
According to him, members who lose internal contests should accept the outcome or use legitimate mechanisms provided by the party and the law, rather than move to another platform within the same electoral cycle.
The Lagos APC said it relied on Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking disciplinary action against the two former members.
The party subsequently declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf were no longer members of the Lagos State APC.
The party also said the two men no longer had the authority to speak for, represent or negotiate on behalf of the Lagos APC or conduct any transaction in the name of the party.
The state chapter urged its members, supporters, stakeholders and members of the public to take note of the development and avoid dealing with either individual as an authorised representative of the APC.
Ojelabi further said the APC remained committed to internal democracy, discipline, loyalty and adherence to its rules as the party prepares for forthcoming elections.
He maintained that while party tickets could be contested by members, the outcome of the nomination process was expected to be respected within the party’s established framework.
The development adds another layer to political activity in Lagos as parties and aspirants position themselves ahead of the forthcoming electoral contests.
