KANO: Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has outlined terms under which he may rejoin the All-Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at his residence in Kano, the former governor said any political alliance must recognise and respect the interests of his party, NNPP, and his political movement, Kwankwasiyya.
“We have agreed to join the APC, but only on a clear agreement that protects and respects the interest of NNPP and Kwankwasiyya. There is no state where you won’t find our structure. We have gubernatorial, senatorial, and other candidates across the country, he said.
Kwankwaso recalled that he and his supporters helped form the APC but were sidelined after the party came to power.
We endured persecution from security agencies under the last administration. Yet, when APC assumed power, we got no recognition because we didn’t belong to their original faction. We will not allow anyone to use and dump us again, he stated.
The NNPP leader added that he is not in a hurry to abandon his current party, stressing that his camp is enjoying peace of mind there.
However, he expressed openness to alliances, provided they are built on trust and formal agreements.
If the APC or even the PDP admits their past mistakes, we can work together on the condition that agreements are made public. What we won’t accept is a repeat of the past betrayals, Kwankwaso said.
The remarks come amid growing speculation about possible realignments ahead of future elections, with both APC and PDP reportedly seeking new coalitions.
