KATSINA: The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a young woman, Zainab Muhammad, for allegedly stabbing her husband, Abubakar Abdulkarim, to death just three days after their wedding.
The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon, November 23, in Tashar Buja, Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Abdulkarim, popularly known as Dan Gaske, had married Zainab on Thursday, November 18, 2025. According to residents, the groom was asleep when his wife allegedly attacked him with a knife, inflicting a deep wound on his neck.
A relative of the deceased, Aminu Danladi, said he and other family members were with the groom earlier that morning as they prepared for a family visit scheduled for later in the day. Hours later, news broke that Abdulkarim had been found dead in his home.
Danladi dismissed rumours that the union was forced, noting that the couple appeared to be on good terms before their wedding.
Sources said Zainab, believed to be in her 20s and from Katsina metropolis, was introduced to the groom by his nephew, who knew her from Government Girls Secondary School, Jibia. It was also alleged that she had previously been married and divorced a detail the groom’s family reportedly did not know.
Neighbours became suspicious when the newlywed appeared disoriented after the incident and went to a neighbour’s house asking for food.
Elderly women in the area followed her back home, where they discovered the groom’s lifeless body and immediately alerted security personnel.
Police spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu confirmed the incident in a statement, saying the groom was found in a pool of blood with a deep neck wound.
He was rushed to a hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.
“One person is currently in custody in connection with the case, and investigations are ongoing to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, the statement added.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, assured the public of a thorough investigation and called on anyone with useful information to assist authorities.
